TRANSFER RUMOURS: 12 July 2012

Paris Saint-Germain are close to pulling off an incredible double signing. The Ligue 1 side, backed by the well-moneyed Qatar Investment Authority, have made a €62 million bid for AC Milan duo THIAGO SILVA and ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC and are hoping to have the transaction wrapped up by the weekend (Soccernet).

Mino Raiola, the agent for Sweden captain Ibrahimovic, met with PSG director Leonardo earlier today and the two sides are reported to have agreed a contract in principle (L'Equipe). Thiago Silva reached personal terms with PSG in June.---

The likely exit of Thiago Silva—largely thought of as one of the best centre-backs in the world—has reignited Milan's interest in Vasco da Gama defender DEDÉ. The towering 24-year-old was a vital cog in Vasco's Copa do Brasil win last season and has earned two caps for the senior Brazil side. He would be available for approximately €10 million (Corriere dello Sport).

PSG have also emerged as a late bidder for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder LUKA MODRIC—a transfer target of both Manchester United and Real Madrid (Guardian). Both sides have so far refused to meet Spurs £40 million valuation, however, and with PSG in a mood to flash the cash the Ligue 1 runners-up could well be considered favourites for the 26-year-old's signature.

Speculation of the French side's interest skyrocketed on Thursday when manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed his admiration of the Croatia international, saying, "I did not need to see him at the Euros to know how much talent he has. I knew his capabilities before. Now he has confirmed his high quality for those who did not know.

Manchester United are thought to be in the market for at least one more player and have made a £20 million bid for Sao Paulo prospect LUCAS MOURA (Mirror).

The offer is likely intended to test the waters as the Brazilian side values the 19-year-old at upwards of £30 million, but with the attacker widely seen to have underperformed last season the Red Devils are hoping Sao Paulo will be more receptive to doing a deal. Earlier this month Lucas hinted at a possible exit, saying, "I cannot guarantee that I will stay until the end of my contract."

Barcelona remain keenly interested in Athletic Bilbao's JAVI MARTINEZ even though negotiations for the player seen to have stalled (Marca). Athletic are holding firm on their €40 million asking-price and while the 23-year-old would be open to a move he would be less welcoming of the much higher taxes in the Catalan capital—taxes that would require Barcelona to significantly increase his wages to offset the more than double tax rate in Catalonia. Bayern Munich are also reportedly interested in Martinez, who can play both at the heart of the defense and in central midfield.
---
New Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has little interest in keeping ANDY CARROLL at Anfield next season and is entertaining loan offers from at least three clubs. AC Milan, given the likely exit of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, were the first to express an interest in the 23-year-old striker, but West Ham and Newcastle have emerged as suitors as well.

At this point Liverpool are not interested in selling Carroll, for whom they paid £35 million in 2011. Given the player's poor goalscoring record since the move the club would come nowhere near recouping the fee paid to Newcastle.
